A new residency management system will be put into place

On July 9th, 2012, the Alien Registration Act will be abolished and a new residency management system will be put into place. Under the new system, the Basic Resident Act will applied to foreign residents, and foreign residents with a mid- to long-term “Status of Residence” will be issued Resident Cards in place of the current Alien Registration Cards.
